Emi Locke

I was born and raised in a non-Christian home in Vancouver, Canada.  When I was in Grade 5, I had accepted Christ at a summer Bible camp with a school friend; but, I had walked away from God many times.  When I went to university, I studied Anthropology and Sociology and it made me question whether there really is a God or whether man believes in God, because he needs something to believe in (since all societies believe in some sort of religion.)  This was a major roadblock for me in truly believing in Christ as an adult.

I married Derek in 1995 and moved to Seattle, WA where I continued my career as a Legal Secretary until we gave birth to our first child, Tyler.  My husband and I were invited to Cornerstone Church by Derek's cousin, Joey Locke.  After attending church for a while, I attended various Discovery and small groups.  During Pastor Joe's Discovery Group, we talked about the fact that it's difficult to prove God exists with physical evidence, because God is an all powerful entity and He is not of this world.

Around this same time, I had heard some amazing testimonies during church services and many church sermons spoke to me.  I remember that I would be crying during service and not really understanding why.  Also around this time, the movie:  The Passion of Christ came out.  I decided to go see it on my own.  What we did to Jesus was horrific; but, after all we did to him, Jesus still prayed to God and asked Him to forgive us, because we didn't know what we were doing.  I knew Jesus was not an ordinary man and He was not of this world.  He is the son of God.

I re-accepted Christ with my friend, Susanna Hui, shortly after that.  It wasn't the fact that it was a movie that made me believe; but, seeing what Jesus went through to save us - that made me truly believe that Jesus is the son of God.

What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
I'm shy.

When you get to heaven, what's the first thing you'll ask?
How do you exist before time began?

Who was your childhood hero?
Pollyanna (if you haven't seen the Disney version, it's a must see classic! Many life lessons about looking for the good in people and learning how to love others … especially watch how the Pastor, Aunt Polly and others transform their lives in this one!) Also liked Tinkerbell and Mary Poppins, because they could fly!

What's your favorite bible verse(s)?
Cast all your anxieties on Him, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7) For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
