Fasting as a discipline has multiple benefits:
- We learn that God’s word to us is a life substance (Matt. 4)
- We learn to feast on the Lord and doing his will. (John 4:32,34)
- It’s a way of practicing the self-denial that is required of everyone who would follow Christ (Matt. 16:24).
- It teaches temperance or self-control and therefore teaches moderation and restraint with regard to all our fundamental drives.
