The church at Corinth had been swayed by false teachers to discredit Paul and his ministry. The slanderous attackers claimed he was fickle, proud, unimpressive in appearance and speech, dishonest, and unqualified as an apostle of Christ. Throughout this letter the apostle is placed in the awkward position of defending himself against these accusations while also giving timeless instruction and encouragement to the faithful believers.
As we fix our eyes on the eternal we find renewed strength to face the challenges of the temporal. Though we are physically fragile we can experience the internal fortitude to withstand all that come our way.
