A Study of 2 Corinthians

The church at Corinth had been swayed by false teachers to discredit Paul and his ministry. The slanderous attackers claimed he was fickle, proud, unimpressive in appearance and speech, dishonest, and unqualified as an apostle of Christ. Throughout this letter the apostle is placed in the awkward position of defending himself against these accusations while also giving timeless instruction and encouragement to the faithful believers.

    God desires that we will feel the full weight of our sin so we can also experience the full joy of our restoration. godly sorrow leads to repentance and restoration while worldly sorrow is a pity party for oneself.

    1. 2 Corinthians 7:1
    Increasingly, Jesus’ disciples value and desire fellowship with God more than the temporary high of self-assertion.   They have a growing revulsion to sin.

    2.  2 Corinthians 7:8-10
    Jesus’ disciples grieve the devastation of their sin.   He brings to them a new awareness of sin and its effects.
    Matthew 5:4 

    3.  2 Corinthians 7:10-16
    Jesus’ disciples renounce and repent of their sin with the help of the Holy Spirit and other disciples.   Jesus gives them courage and a new freedom over sin’s power.
