The church at Corinth had been swayed by false teachers to discredit Paul and his ministry. The slanderous attackers claimed he was fickle, proud, unimpressive in appearance and speech, dishonest, and unqualified as an apostle of Christ. Throughout this letter the apostle is placed in the awkward position of defending himself against these accusations while also giving timeless instruction and encouragement to the faithful believers.
Paul was given a messenger from Satan which he pleaded to the Lord to remove. But God told him that his power is made perfect in weakness, for when we are weak then we are truly strong.
