A Study of 2 Corinthians

The church at Corinth had been swayed by false teachers to discredit Paul and his ministry. The slanderous attackers claimed he was fickle, proud, unimpressive in appearance and speech, dishonest, and unqualified as an apostle of Christ. Throughout this letter the apostle is placed in the awkward position of defending himself against these accusations while also giving timeless instruction and encouragement to the faithful believers.

    The Final Exam

    Pastor Joe
    November 16, 2008

Paul challenges the Corinthian church to examine themselves to see whether or not they were truly of the faith. As we close out our study we too should examine ourselves to see if we truly have Christ in our lives.

    Message Notes

    2 Corinthians 13:1-14

    INSIGHT ON DEALING WITH SIN
    Matthew 18:15-17
    A.  Steps To Take
Step #1 – Confront the person one on one.
Step #2 – Bring one or two witnesses who can help the person see his/her sin.
Steps #3 – Bring the matter before the church (Elders).
Step #4 – Treat the person as an unbeliever.  (have boundaries on interaction and involvement)

Note:  The goal is always reconciliation and restoration.

    B.  Discerning Approaches
Sometimes we respond with gentle mercy and sometimes we respond with severe mercy.

    EXHORTATION TO EXAMINE OUR FAITH
    A.  There will always be some who are not truly of the faith.
    B.  Examine yourself, not others!

    EXAMPLE OF CHRISTLIKE CONCERN
Q:  Do you have a Godly concern for the spiritual welfare of others?
Q:  What can you do to help someone else grow toward Christ-like maturity?
