Strong Words from our Mighty Savior

The church at the end of the first century faced many challenges, both from without and from within. We can learn much from what Jesus said to our first century brothers and sisters that can help us stay true to following Him.

Sardis: A Wake-up Call

Pastor Joe
February 22, 2009

The warning to this church is a powerful warning to all churches that would judge their spiritual fitness based on superficial criteria. Reputation has to do with the things that human's value, not necessarily what God values.

Message Notes

Revelation 3:1-6
v.1  "To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
1. God will evaluate our church based on His standards, not worldly standards.

v.2  Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.
2. God wants more than activities, he cares about motive, purpose, and process.

v.3  Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent.
3. We need to wake up by repenting, remembering, and obeying.

v.3  …But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
4. If you don’t wake up you will not know what hits you!
