Strong Words from our Mighty Savior

The church at the end of the first century faced many challenges, both from without and from within. We can learn much from what Jesus said to our first century brothers and sisters that can help us stay true to following Him.

Laodicea: True Poverty

Pastor Joe
March 8, 2009

This church was lukewarm, neither hot nor cold and so the Lord threatened to spit them out of his mouth. This challenges all those who are going through the motions, who tend to treat church like a health club, who give lip service to God.

Message Notes

Revelation 3:14-22

1.    Jesus wants us to be his passionate followers!
v. 15    I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!

2.    A lukewarm faith sickens Jesus!
v. 16    So, because you are lukewarm-- neither hot nor cold-- I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

3.    A lukewarm person is deceived about their true condition.
v. 17    You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

4.    The passionate follower is fueled by an intimate relationship with Jesus.
v. 20    Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
