RECAPTURING OUR AWE OF GOD

We’ve lost our awe of God. Because of this our hearts have grown cold toward the Lord. Worship has been reduced to something we do on Sunday mornings instead of the expression of the most profound and deep relationship we are in. Worship begins with understanding God for who He is and what He’s done. If we want to worship God we must begin by recapturing our awe of Him!

    God's Awesome Holiness

    Pastor Larry
    October 18, 2009

God is worthy to be worshipped because all that God does is righteous and good.  His goodness toward his creation flows out of his holiness. Because of sin, his holiness is also understood in his being set apart from moral stain or evil. he is without blemish or flaw.

    Message Notes

    Jeremiah 2:19

    1. Isaiah 57:15

God’s holiness is his righteousness, goodness and separateness from all evil
    Isaiah 6:1-4

We cannot grasp the true meaning of the divine holiness by thinking of someone or something very pure and then raising the concept to the highest degree we are capable of.  God’s holiness is not simply the best we know infinitely bettered.  We know nothing like the divine holiness.  It stands apart, unique, unapproachable, incomprehensible and unattainable.  The natural man is blind to it.  He may fear God’s power and admire his wisdom, but his holiness he cannot even imagine.  Only the Spirit of the Holy One can impart to the human spirit the knowledge of the holy.  (A. W.Tozer)

    2. Isaiah 6:5

God’s holiness exposes our impurity, selfishness, sin and produces dread and honest confession.

(Isaiah)…expresses the feeling of every man who has discovered himself under his disguises and has been confronted with an inward sight of the holy whiteness that is God.  Such an experience cannot but be emotionally violent. (A.W.Tozer)
    Job 42:2-6
    Luke 5:8
    Luke 23:40-41
    Psalm 130:3-4

    3. 2 Corinthians 5:21
God’s holiness and grace meet in Jesus, on the Cross, so we can have life in Him!

In Jesus, God became flesh and the holy became touchable!
    1 John 1:1
