Jesus' Last Week

The last week that Jesus walked the earth before his crucifixion is referred to as Holy Week.  This week is the climax of his earthly ministry with its apex being the crucifixion and resurrection.  Jesus understood his purpose for coming to earth.  He came to offer himself to mankind and so at the right time he set his face toward Jerusalem knowing that his final week was upon him.  In this series we’ll look closely at what he said and what he did in this final week.  Fall in love with Jesus all over again as we pause to consider, think deeply upon, touch and behold our King!

Divine Authority

Pastor Joe
February 7, 2010

The religious leaders loved the control and authority they exercised over the people and so they challenged Jesus’ authority seeking to show that he didn’t come from them.  Jesus reveals his divine authority while exposing the religious leaders as the fakes that they were.

Message Notes

Luke 20:1-19

1.    We must all answer the question of whether or not to yield to Jesus’ authority in our lives.
Luke 20:18

2.    You can either choose to be broken or ultimately crushed.

‘The human soul is much like an untamed stallion with his unbridled energy.  Sometimes it is majestic and powerful, and at other times it is stubborn and destructively dangerous.  Regardless of its potential, the untamed soul has limited capacity for constructive use.  Just as the unbroken horse cannot be ridden for enjoyment or used to herd cattle, a person’s unbroken spirit is confined to the sheer beauty of its potential productivity.  An unbridled soul restricts God’s work in a person’s life.  That kind of soul cannot be guided.  Energy cannot be harnessed in the untamed state.’  Alan Nelson, Embracing Brokenness, Navpress Pg. 18

Psalm 51:17

3.    Brokenness is our willingness to let God lead our lives.

Synonyms for brokenness:
-    A crucified life.
Galatians 2:20

-    A life of surrender.
Ephesians 4:1

-    A life of abiding in Christ
John 15:5
