Cambodia 2004

Cambodia is a country rich in history, rich in heritage. Its greatest gift is its people. Yet, its people have suffered in unimaginable ways in recent times. Imagine a country the size of Washington state, where, within a four year timespan, 1/5 of the population was wiped out. This is the reality during 1975-1979, a time where an oppressive regime ruled with fear and death, a time from which the people of Cambodia are still recovering.

Into this man-made devastation, this man-made suffering, God has been working to give the people a hope that lasts beyond a lifetime. God has been touching the hearts of those who know Him, and have a heart for the things He has a heart for, to go and make a difference in the lives of those in need. This heart of wanting them to know how much Jesus loves them is lived out in many ways: physically, for a lifetime (through health clinics, basic health and hygiene awareness, microfinance and job skills programs, construction projects, etc.), and spiritually, for an eternity (helping them to enter into that loving relationship with Jesus, to grow closer to Him, and to know Him more). Above all, love and friendship, especially with our Father in heaven, is the pinnacle of our hope.

Cornerstone has the opportunity to partner with some of our brothers and sisters from around the world in this worthy endeavor. A team of about twenty people will be heading to Cambodia in late October to see what God is doing, and to help be His hands and feet to those who have suffered so much.
