To Our Dear Friends and Family:
We want to extend our warmest heart and thanks for your love and support as we head to Cambodia to be a part of what God is doing to redeem the heartache that has resulted from the freewill sin of man.
As
many of you know, in the mid 1970's, the Khmer Rouge under the
leadership of Pol Pot perpetrated unimaginable atrocities against their
people. In their quest for utopia without God, the perfect communal
society predicated upon the goodness of man, the subtle pride of man--
fueled by a strong conviction of right and wrong (devoid of God or His
love), and their misplaced confidence in their ability to bring about a
wonderful world based upon the good in their hearts-- led to the
subsequent slaughter of ~1.5 - 2 million men, women, children, and
babies as their pride spiraled out of control. Fear, starvation, and
torture became the reality for countless others. Because ~1/5th of the
population was killed-- including many teachers, engineers, doctors,
artists, etc.-- even to this day, Cambodia has
struggled to recover from this devastating blow. Many struggle to eke
out enough to eat and live, and the ability to rebuild for the good of
the people has been crippled by wholesale corruption. Trafficking of
children as sex slaves is a very real reality as parents are forced to
decide between the good of one of their children or having enough food
for the rest of the family to eat. This is just a bit of the story of Cambodia. This is just a bit of all that God weeps over. This is just a bit of what God is seeking to redeem for the good of so many.
We will be going to walk alongside missionaries that we support in Cambodia,
to aid in their ministries to the young and the orphaned, and to
capture a growing vision for God, His heart, and all He hopes to do
through us to bring life... good life... to the people of Southeast
Asia and all over the world. In this endeavour, we cannot do it alone.
We are weak. We are broken (but redeemed!). And we unashamedly ask for
your help, for your prayers, for your sacrifice... because this isn't a
small team of crazy people going, this is all of us going. We are
simply the hands and feet of God's church, going where others in this
body of His church at Cornerstone cannot go. So please join us in one
heart, with one effort, as one voice... not because we are supposed to
or should, not because we get anything out of it or because we are
super pious or spiritual, but just because God cares. Because
when we step out with what little we have, God "wins". His Kingdom
"wins". And people who find life through Christ "win"... forever
With Much Love,
The 2010 Cambodia Missions Team
